Curriculum

The SYP comprises eight subject groups, offered in different languages. At Mother mary international scholl comlpex, we offer the eight subjects in the languages indicated below:

We focus on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and beyond. The early years in the PYP are transformative experiences for learners and deliver excellent outcomes by providing an education that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant. The subject areas in the PYP are:

  • Language and literature: Offered in English in the English program, in French in the 50/50 Program, and in Kinyarwanda in both programs.
  • Language acquisition: French, Kinyarwanda, German or Mandarin are offered as electives in the English program, while English, Kinyarwanda, German or Mandarin are offered in the 50/50 program.
  • Individuals and societies: Offered in English in the English program, and in French in the 50/50 program.
  • Mathematics: Offered in English in the English program, and in French in the 50/50 program.
  • Sciences: Offered in English in both programs.
  • Arts: Offered in English in both programs
  • Physical and health education: Offered in English in both programs.
  • Design: Offered in English in both programs
Community Service Projects

Learners in Middle School participate in community projects that provide important opportunities to collaborate and engage in service learning. The projects are learner-centred and age-appropriate, enabling learners to engage in practical explorations through a cycle of inquiry, action and reflection.The aims of the community projects are to encourage and enable learners to:

  • Participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context
  • Generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
  • Demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
  • Appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments
